Mariners Place Speier on IL, Activate Lefties

The Seattle Mariners have placed left-handed reliever Gabe Speier on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation and activated left-handers José Suarez and Josh Simpson.

The injury-plagued Mariners took another hit as Speier, who has struggled with his performance this season, will miss time. Speier's expected metrics have been career-highs this season, with a .261 xBA, .466 xSLG, and .337 xwOBA. To replace him, the Mariners claimed Suarez off waivers from the Braves and selected Simpson from Triple-A Tacoma.
